How Does an AMD Threadripper Cloud Server Work?

The mechanism is straightforward, and understanding it explains why performance differs so much from standard cloud.

Physical cores

Physical cores are reserved, not shared.

On most cloud platforms, one physical core is oversubscribed across several customers. The hypervisor schedules them in turn. When another tenant is busy, your workload waits — this appears in Linux as CPU steal time. On Webyne HA Cloud, your vCPUs are pinned to cores allocated only to you, so steal time does not occur.

Cores run at workstation clock speeds.

Density-optimised cloud hardware typically runs in the 2.2–2.6 GHz range. Threadripper PRO 3955WX runs at a 3.9 GHz base with boost up to 4.3 GHz*. For single-threaded work — which describes most accounting, ERP and query-execution workloads — this difference is close to linear.

Each core gets direct, equal access to memory rather than queueing behind others. Database scans, joins and multi-user sessions are frequently limited by memory bandwidth long before they are limited by CPU.
